What is New Music Arizona?

Our annual New Music Arizona may be the only concert of its kind.

To begin our planning, we seek out new music by four living composers who reside or have lived in Arizona. Our criteria is fairly simple: the music must be fresh and appealing to the audience.

Once we've chosen four composers and their works, we ask the composers about who and what styles of music have influenced them. In the past,

composers have listed influences as varied as Bach, Blues, Nature, or 70's funk. With these influences in mind, we then take a creative approach to choosing four other works representative of each of these composers' influences so that the end result is a cohesive and eclectic concert.

To ensure that our audiences love the performance, we hire music professionals from across the state to travel to Prescott. In a typical concert, you can expect to find members of the Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson symphonies playing along with our nationally acclaimed guest artists.

Oh, and if possible, we might do a quirky take on one or more of these "influence" pieces, just to stir things up. Brahms Lullaby on jazz saxophone and string bass? Hildegard evolving into scat? Bach Jesu for accompanied voice and trumpet solo? Stevie Wonder fused with string quartet and brass quintet? You never know. That is, unless you show up.

We invite you to come to experience what has been called over and over again, "The best concert in Prescott." Some have even deemed it, "The best concert ever." Once you attend one of these concerts, you won't miss another.

Tickets will be available at the door and online.
