PRESS RELEASE / PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Summer Music Festival:
Two Exceptional Summer Camps in Instrumental Music for Young People

A pair of Summer Academies are being offered in Prescott by the Chaparral Music Festival faculty.

The String Academy is taught by Quartet Sabaku (www.QuartetSabaku.com) whose personnel are also members of the Phoenix Symphony and Arizona Opera Orchestra. This day camp is for string players ages 8-18 and will be held from June 11 to 14th at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 S. Park in Prescott, AZ. Lasting from 9 until 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 9-1 pm on Friday, the classes will culminate in a Saturday Celebration Concert for all participants in performance with Quartet Sabaku. The String Academy includes music from classical, fiddle, and mariachi traditions. Students must have been playing at least one year to enroll.

The second Summer Academy is a ‘Percussion Academy’ from June 16th to 20th and offers mornings and afternoon sessions at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Children from 7 to 11 are invited to apply. The instructors are Maria and Henry Flurry of the acclaimed duo, Sticks and Tones (www.SticksAndTones.com). The classes feature learning the music and techniques of drums and other percussion instruments, including Latin and African rhythms. The classes will include composing and improvising. No experience is necessary and Chaparral MusicFest provides the instruments and a cool t-shirt. Participants will perform with Sticks and Tones at the Friday evening concert on the 20th at the church.
